Weight Loss and Fat Cells

I love that I can say I lost 7 inches off my butt!

But what does losing weight do to your body?  What happens to fat cell after you lose weight?

When you gain weight fat cells are created.  They are like storage bins.  They fill up with a combination of fat, water and excess impurities.  When we lose the weight the fat that is stored in fat cells (adipocytes) is reduced or burned off along with the water and impurities. But the fat cells themselves remain in place waiting to be filled again.

Unfortunately, when we gain weight, we refill those fat cells and create more, so the more overweight we become the more fat cells we possess – all waiting to be filled.

If you are a woman of average height, you may have as many as 35 billion fat cells while the average man may carry around 26 billion fat cells.

An obese adult may have as many as 280 billion fat cells.
